Use These Tips To Reduce Your College Anxiety

Be certain you have enough toiletries when you get to college. You’ll go through these toiletries pretty fast through regular use. Buying toiletries in bulk saves you time and money.

Make a long list of all the needed or desired tools and supplies before preparing for any upcoming college course. It is better to go school prepared instead of having to call your parents for things you need every week. This is even more important if you will be attending a college that is far away.

Maintain a healthy diet. The freshman 15 isn’t an exaggeration. You have to watch what you eat. Avoid eating lots of convenient but unhealthy foods, such as pizza or burgers. These foods are quick and easy, but they are very bad for you.

Do a practice run-through of your schedule prior to your first day of class. Figure out how many minutes or hours you will need to make it each class to the next and plan accordingly. Also look for places you’ll most likely frequent such as a cafeteria, the library, and bathrooms.

It’s important to get familiar with the teachers you have when you start your classes. Take a walk to their offices and speak with them face to face. If you have a good relationship with your professors from the start, they will be more understanding if you must miss a deadline or need other special considerations.

Create a schedule and carve out daily time to go over your lessons. While distractions are plentiful, you can find ways to avoid them. Promise yourself that you’ll free up an hour in order to study every day. While you may think you don’t require studying one day, do it anyway. It helps set it as a habit.

Take notes; don’t just sit back and listen in class. Taking notes helps cement the information in your brain. You will also find that it makes studying the material that much easier. Even if you think you know the material, make it a habit to write these notes.

Think about interning while in college. It will provide you with work experience and give you an idea of what is in store. You may even get an offer of a job from the company you intern with! See a counselor or call the department that specializes in internships for help.

Don’t buy your morning “cup-o-joe” from a cafe every day. Coffeehouses charge too much. Make coffee yourself. It might not be quite as convenient as visiting the neighborhood coffee shop, but it’s a lot cheaper. Check your local discount store for an affordable coffeemaker.

Spend some time in the school library. Libraries contain all the needed resources for perfecting the education process and improving your chances for succeeding. Also, become acquainted with the librarian, as she can tell you what resources you need to successfully complete your courses. Also, there may be a bulletin board filled with advertisements for used books for sale. You can get a great deal on them if you act quickly.

Take a break when you’re working or studying. Study breaks are just as important as the studying itself. Take a 10-minute break every hour while studying to help relieve stress. Stick with the schedule that you make for yourself.

Look beyond your elective courses for choosing your major. Get involved on campus. Join clubs and obtain a work-study job. There are a lot of things for you to get into every week. Try something that you’ve never done every week.
